Following a hiatus in Auditorium Acoustics conferences due to the pandemic we are delighted to announce their resumption with a conference in the Alternative Stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens in September 2023.
Designed by the acclaimed Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the acoustic design was provided by Arup. The SNFCC was nominated by the Royal Institute of British Architects for its International Architecture Prize 2018, the only Greek nominee in 30 countries.
Many contemporary opera house designs including those on the drawing board still follow the horseshoe geometry developed in the 17th century. Can we continue to justify this from an acoustic viewpoint or can we propose a better alternative? Similarly with concert halls, is the distinction between “shoebox” and “vineyard” paradigms that has emerged over recent decades helpful or does this limit creative acoustic design?
We welcome you to submit papers on these topics as well as related submissions on the subjects of auditorium and room acoustics.
